With the holidays coming right around the corner, right now is the perfect time to start planning your fall family photoshoot session. When it comes to planning a photoshoot the hardest thing is coming up with what to wear. Should you match? Do you coordinate? But don’t worry, that’s what I’m here for! Here are some tips on what to wear to your fall family session.

Earth Tones

Opt for warm, earthy colors like mustard yellow, olive green, burnt orange, burgundy, and shades of brown. These colors blend well with the fall foliage.

Layering

Since fall weather can be unpredictable, layering is a great option. Pair a plaid flannel shirt or a chunky knit sweater with a plain long-sleeve shirt or a turtleneck. This adds depth and dimension to your outfits.

Coordinated

Choose outfits that complement each other without being too matchy-matchy. Consider using a color palette and base your outfits around it. For example, if one family member wears a mustard yellow sweater, another could wear a plaid shirt with mustard accents.

Scarves and Accessories

Scarves and accessories: Fall is the perfect time to accessorize with scarves, hats, and boots. Accessories are something we may think are a small unnoticeable detail, but the perfect chunky boot or patterned scarf can make your photos so much better.

Even though clothes may seem like a big thing when you are deciding what to wear to your fall family session, remember that what makes your family portraits special is having fun and being yourselves during the photoshoot. This will result in natural and authentic photos that capture the true essence of your family.

Kind Words

“Janice is an amazing photographer. She has a special way of capturing special moments that will last forever. She has done two Christmas shoots for our family of ten, including this past Christmas’s 20-degree weather outside and the photos all turned out amazingly!”
