As a photographer, one of the questions I often get asked is, “When should you schedule family portraits” And let me tell you, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. The best time to schedule family photos largely depends on your specific circumstances and preferences.However, if I were to be completely honest, there are a few times of the year that are particularly popular for family photoshoots, and for good reason.
Spring & Summer
Spring is a fantastic time for family photos, as nature starts to come alive after the cold winter months. The blossoming flowers and vibrant greenery create a beautiful backdrop. Plus, the weather is usually mild, allowing everyone to feel comfortable during the shoot. Summer is another time of year that is great for family photos. Longer daylight hours mean you have more flexibility in scheduling your session, and you can take advantage of the warm weather by heading to your favorite outdoor location. If you have children, summer vacation also means they are more likely to be available making it easier to coordinate schedules.
Fall & Winter
However, if you prefer cooler temperatures, fall is the perfect time for you. The changing leaves provide a stunning color palette, and the crisp air adds a cozy feel to the photos. Fall is also a popular time for family photos because it’s often associated with holidays making it a great opportunity to capture some festive and memorable moments. So to answer the question on “When should you schedule family portraits” the answer is whenever works best for you and your loved ones. Consider factors like the weather, the availability of everyone in your family, and the type of atmosphere you want to create in your photos. Don’t be afraid to consult with your photographer to get their input and guidance on the best time for your specific needs.
