When you’re organizing a family session for a big group, picking the right spot is key. It’s all about finding a place that truly captures the spirit of the family while also giving everyone enough room to relax and enjoy themselves. When the Davis family reached out to me about photographing their family portraits for their family of 10, I knew that the beach during sunset would be the perfect choice of location for them. Photographing an extended family session on the Beach in Charleston is always a dream and I’m so excited to tell you all about our day.
We gathered in the late afternoon, as the sun began to cast its warm, golden glow, setting the perfect scene for capturing beautiful moments. With kids darting around in the sand and splashing in the water, the adults joined in the fun. I started taking pictures as soon as we got there, wanting to catch the genuine moments. Whether it was Grandpa lifting a grandkid high or cousins sharing secrets, each photo had its tale. Posed shots are nice, but it’s these spontaneous moments that families cherish. These spontaneous, unplanned moments have taught me to treasure them, as they reveal the true spirit of a family.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we wrapped up our session with a big family group hug. I kept clicking, capturing the pure joy and togetherness that defined this family.
