Whether you’re picturing photos downtown surrounded by historic Charleston architecture, something relaxed near the water, or a beach engagement session, here’s what to consider when choosing the best time of year for your engagement photos.

Spring Engagement Photos in Charleston

Spring is easily one of the prettiest times for engagement photos in Charleston. Everything starts to feel green again, flowers are blooming, and the weather is usually comfortable before the summer heat really sets in.

March through May is especially great if you love colorful gardens, greenery, and that classic Charleston look. Downtown sessions are beautiful this time of year, and it’s also a great season if you want to walk around and explore a few different spots without dealing with peak summer temperatures.

Spring dates can fill quickly, so if you already know you want this time of year, it’s a good idea to get your session on the calendar early.

Summer Engagement Photos in Charleston

If you love warm evenings, beach photos, and that unmistakable coastal South Carolina feel, summer might be perfect for you. Summer engagement sessions are usually best scheduled later in the evening. When temperatures begin to cool down and the light gets softer. This is also one of my favorite times to head toward the beach or water and make the session feel a little more relaxed.

Just keep in mind that Charleston summers are hot and humid. Choosing breathable outfits, bringing water, and planning your session around sunset can make a huge difference!!

Fall Engagement Photos in Charleston

Fall is another favorite for Charleston engagement sessions, especially if you want comfortable weather without losing all of the greenery Charleston is known for.

September can still feel very much like summer, while October and November usually bring cooler temperatures. It’s a great time for walking around downtown Charleston, dressing in layers or slightly dressier outfits, and taking advantage of those earlier sunsets.

Fall is also perfect if you’re planning a spring or summer wedding and want plenty of time to use your engagement photos for save-the-dates, your wedding website, or other details.

Winter Engagement Photos in Charleston

Don’t count winter out! Charleston winters are generally much milder than in many other parts of the country, which means outdoor engagement photos are still an option. December through February can also mean fewer crowds at popular Charleston locations, which is a huge bonus if you’re hoping for a downtown session.

Winter is especially pretty if you’re drawn to a more classic look with neutral outfits, historic streets, and Charleston architecture taking center stage.

The best time really depends on what you want your photos to feel like.

If you love blooms and greenery, consider spring. If you’re dreaming of a playful beach session, summer could be your season.
