There’s something special about having a place your family comes back to year after year. Maybe Charleston has been your summer vacation spot for as long as you can remember, or maybe you’ve recently started bringing your own kids here. Either way, those yearly beach trips quickly become part of your family’s story. And they’re worth documenting!

Different Seasons

One of my favorite things about photographing families is seeing how much can change in just one year. The kids are a little taller. Someone lost their first tooth. Your toddler who wanted to be held the entire session last year is suddenly running straight toward the water.

When you make family photos part of your annual Charleston beach trip, you get to watch all of those little changes add up over time. You’re not just getting updated photos. You’re creating a collection of what your family looked like in every season.

Let the Beach Be Part of It

If your family already spends part of the year in Charleston, your photos don’t need to feel separate from your vacation. Let the kids run barefoot through the sand. Walk along the water together. Pick up shells. Get your feet wet. Let them be silly. Some of the best photos happen when everyone forgets about the camera for a minute and just enjoys being together.

Years from now, those photos will remind you of so much more than what everyone looked like. You’ll remember the beach you visited every summer, the things your kids loved doing, and what those days together actually felt like.

Make It a Tradition

Family traditions don’t always have to be big. Sometimes it’s simply coming back to the same place and making a point to document it. You can even choose the same beach every year and watch your family grow against a familiar backdrop. Or switch things up as the kids get older and explore different parts of Charleston together.

It’s Worth Remembering

You don’t need a milestone or special occasion to have family photos taken. If everyone is together and you’re spending a week somewhere you love, that’s reason enough.
